Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

The things people call the office about most. If your question isn't here, call (718) 388-2219 Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Vehicle Owners

Getting your vehicle or belongings back.

How do I get my vehicle back?

Three things have to happen, in this order:

  • Reinstate the loan with your lien holder. They send us the release.
  • You must be the person named on the loan, or someone your lien holder has authorized.
  • Set up an appointment with the office. We take appointments Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Your appointment can't go ahead until we have the release from your lien holder. See the full redemption steps.

How long do I have before my vehicle goes to auction?

That's your lien holder's decision, not ours. Timelines vary by lender, so call them as soon as you can.

Who is allowed to pick up the vehicle?

The person named on the loan. If that isn't you, your lien holder has to authorize you before we can release the vehicle.

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. The name on it has to match the loan, or match the authorization your lien holder sent us.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
  • Photo ID - valid and government-issued, matching the loan or the lien holder's authorization.
  • Your lien holder's release - it has to reach us before your appointment. Check with them that it went out.
  • Your appointment confirmation - it has your time and the lot address on it.
  • Keys to the vehicle - if you have not already surrendered them.
  • Fees, if applicable - all fees are due at the time of redemption in exact cash.
Where is my vehicle?

We keep recovered vehicles in secure storage at our Brooklyn lot. The address is on your appointment confirmation.

Please don't come down before you get it.

Can I just show up without an appointment?

No. We don't take walk-ins. Every redemption and every property pickup runs on a confirmed appointment, and the confirmation is what carries your time and the lot address.

What are your hours?

Phones are answered from 9:30 AM. Appointments run 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. An appointment is required.

Carriers and transport operators run on a different window - Monday to Friday, 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with 24-hour notice. See transporter scheduling.

How do I get my personal belongings out of the vehicle?

If you only need your belongings and not the vehicle, set up a personal-property appointment the same way - by phone, email, or the form on the property page. Bring a valid photo ID. You must be the person named on the loan, or have authorization through the lien holder.

See personal property retrieval.

What happens to my belongings in the meantime?

We list and lock up everything we take out of a recovered vehicle, and hold it until you collect it. Contents are inventoried, logged, and secured for owner pickup.

Do I have to reinstate the loan before you'll schedule me?

You reinstate with your lien holder, and they send us the release. The office can't confirm your appointment time and address until that release is on file with us.

You can send us your details before then - it starts the process, and we'll come back to you once we have the release.

Lenders & Transporters

Working with Absolute.

Do you cover New Jersey?

Yes - through our recovery network rather than directly. We run our own recoveries across all five boroughs of New York City, plus Long Island and Westchester, with New Jersey covered through the network.

I'm a lender - how do I assign a recovery?

Assignments flow straight into our queue through RDN and Clearplan - no email chains, no lost files. If you're not on either system, send the details through the contact form or call the office and we'll take it from there.

See how we work with lenders.

I'm a transporter - how do I schedule a pickup or drop-off?

Send your carrier details, the unit, and your preferred window through the transporter page. The office reviews it and confirms your slot and the pickup address by phone or email.

The transport window is Monday to Friday, 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and we need 24 hours' notice. Sending the form starts the process - it does not hold a slot. Schedule a transport.

What credentials does Absolute hold?

Absolute Automotive Inc. is a DRN affiliate, CARS certified, RDN and Clearplan integrated, and bonded and insured. Recovered units are held in a secure, monitored Brooklyn storage facility.

What does Absolute actually handle?

Involuntary repossession, voluntary surrender, secure storage and impound, condition reports and photos, personal property inventory, locksmith and key services, and transportation.
